Terms of Service

Booking policies, payment terms, and conditions of your stay at The Norwich.

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of thenorwichportland.com (the "Site") and any reservation you make for accommodations at The Norwich, Port Antonio, Jamaica ("the Property"). By making a booking or using the Site you agree to these Terms.

1. Definitions

  • "We", "us", "our" — The Norwich, the operator of the Property and Site.
  • "You", "guest", "tenant" — the person making a booking or staying at the Property.
  • "Booking" — a reservation made through the Site for one or more nights at the Property.
  • "Deposit" — the 50% upfront payment collected at the time of booking.
  • "Balance" — the remaining 50% of the total stay, due on arrival.

2. Booking Process

  1. Choose one of the six accommodation options on our booking page.
  2. Select your check-in and check-out dates through the calendar.
  3. Provide your name, email, phone number, and any special requests.
  4. Pay your 50% deposit securely through Stripe. Your booking is only confirmed once the deposit has been processed successfully.
  5. You will receive a confirmation email with the details of your booking and any pre-arrival instructions.

3. Pricing & Currency

All listed rates are per night in U.S. Dollars (USD). Prices may also be displayed in Jamaican Dollars (JMD) for reference; JMD figures are calculated using a current exchange rate and may differ slightly from the rate applied at the time of payment. Stripe processes the actual charge in USD.

Current rates:

  • The Port Antonio Studio — $125 / night
  • The Shan Shy Room — $100 / night
  • The Shan Shy Apartment Style (incl. kitchen and dining) — $150 / night
  • The Norwich 3 Bedroom House — $375 / night
  • The Norwich 4 Bedroom House — $475 / night
  • The Norwich 4 Bedroom House & The Port Antonio Studio — $575 / night

4. Payment Terms

  • Deposit: 50% of the total stay is charged at the time of booking via Stripe.
  • Balance: the remaining 50% is due on arrival. We accept cash, card, or any payment method made available at check-in.
  • Currency of charge: all card payments are processed in USD. Your card issuer may apply its own conversion fee.
  • Failed payments: if your deposit payment fails for any reason, your booking is not confirmed and your dates are released back to the calendar.

5. Cancellation Policy

Our cancellation policy is designed to be fair to guests while protecting the Property from last-minute cancellations.

  • More than 72 hours (3 days) before check-in: you may cancel for any reason and receive a full refund of your deposit. Refunds are processed automatically through Stripe and typically arrive within 5–10 business days.
  • Within 72 hours of check-in: you may still cancel, but the deposit is non-refundable. The remaining balance is not owed.
  • No-shows: if you do not arrive on your check-in date without notice, the booking is treated as a within-72-hour cancellation. The deposit is forfeited.
  • How to cancel: follow the cancellation link in your confirmation email, or email us at thenorwichportland@gmail.com.

6. Modifications to a Booking

If you need to change your dates, contact us at least 72 hours before your scheduled check-in and we will do our best to accommodate the change subject to availability. Date changes made within 72 hours of check-in are treated as a cancellation followed by a new booking, and the original deposit is non-refundable.

7. Check-in & Check-out

  • Check-in: from 3:00 PM local time.
  • Check-out: by 11:00 AM local time.
  • Early check-in and late check-out may be available on request and are subject to the schedule of other guests.

8. House Rules

  • No smoking indoors. Smoking is permitted only in designated outdoor areas.
  • No parties or events without prior written permission. Whole-property rentals may be arranged for qualifying groups — see listing options on the booking page.
  • Quiet hours from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM out of respect for neighbors.
  • Guest count must not exceed the capacity stated on the booking page.
  • Pets are not permitted unless agreed in advance.
  • Treat the Property and its furnishings with care. Damage may be deducted from any further amounts owed or invoiced separately.

9. Tour Discounts (Professor Bingy)

Guests are encouraged to book a tour with Professor Bingy (The Walking TV Family) for additional room rate discounts. Tours are arranged directly via WhatsApp at +1 (876) 783-6674 or +1 (876) 215-0611. The Norwich is not responsible for the conduct, pricing, or scheduling of third-party tours; however, when proof of a Bingy tour booking is provided in advance, a discount may be applied to your stay at our discretion.

10. Liability

You agree that The Norwich is not liable for any loss, damage, injury, or theft that occurs during your stay, except where caused by our willful misconduct or gross negligence. You stay at the Property at your own risk and are responsible for your own safety and that of any guests in your party.

11. Force Majeure

If circumstances beyond our reasonable control (natural disasters, hurricanes, government action, utility outages, etc.) prevent us from honoring your booking, we will do our best to rebook at no extra cost. We are not responsible for travel expenses outside of the booking at The Norwich.

12. Use of the Site

You agree not to use the Site for any unlawful purpose, to submit false information, or to interfere with the operation of the Site. We may suspend access to anyone who breaches these Terms.

13. Privacy

Your use of the Site is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

14. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page shows the latest revision. Material changes will be communicated by email when reasonably possible. Bookings already confirmed are governed by the Terms in effect at the time of booking.

15. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Jamaica. Any dispute arising out of or related to your booking or use of the Site will be resolved in the courts of Jamaica.
